In exactly one month, the Tipsy Wizards will be crunching popcorn and waiting impatiently in the cinema for the theatrical release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald! In preparation for this, as well as Halloween, I whipped up a little craft this weekend based off a magical creature we already know will debut in the upcoming sequel. Introducing, the matagots:
These started off as "Dollar Store" Halloween decorations: little black cat statues with a solar panels around the back that make their eyes glow brightly at night. These were an excellent base. Virtually all they required were some fake teeth and a coat of paint. I took air dry clay, rolling it into teeth, and then pressed them into the mouths of the cat statues. Once they had dried and hardened, I dabbed a little yellow paint onto the fangs. The lightbulbs were covered in a swirling motion of blue paint to resemble their glowing eyes visible in the Ministère des Affaires Magiques de la France shot from the trailer. I painted the eyelids as well, in order to make them appear more menacing.
Happy crafting and happy Halloween!
