"The great North American school of magic was founded in the seventeenth century. It stands at the highest peak of Mount Greylock, where it is concealed from non-magic gaze by a variety of powerful enchantments, which sometimes manifest in a wreath of misty cloud." - Pottermore
On September 1st you were likely aboard the Hogwarts Express, but this year Shelby and I made our way through the wreath of mist to Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on the highest point of Massachusetts on Mount Greylock.
While we ascended the mountain, Hedwig's Theme played over the speakers and we chatted about how much more emotional the ride was than we expected. We parked the car and jumped out to do a lap before we started taking photos and the views were breathtaking.
Before we even left Connecticut, Shelby started singing the chorus of the Ilvermorny song and we just kept it going throughout the day.
We choo-choose it
We choo-choose it
The wizard school supreme!"
A group of young girls in Hogwarts robes were scouring the woods for pukwudgies, a local asked if we were there to attend the wizarding school and the wind blew our hair in every direction all day, it was pure magic.
"The robes of Ilvermorny are blue and cranberry. The colours honour Isolt and James: blue because it was Isolt’s favourite colour and because she had wished to be in Ravenclaw house as a child; cranberry in honour of James’s love of cranberry pie."- Pottermore
One of the first things I had made for our Ilvermorny swag collection, were ponchos. Never in my dreams did I think they would come in as handy as they did at the top of this mountain. The wind was blowing and it's just starting to get chilly here in New England and our "uniforms" cover a little less skin than our house sweatshirts, so tossing our heavy ponchos on top of our outfits was a dream. We brought our house spirit jerseys, sweatshirts, ponchos and our own variations of the school uniform to photograph!
We spent 5 hours 3,491 feet in the air and are counting down the days until we go back.
